Walk down West Broadway Street in downtown Prosper and there used to be one gap in the row of buildings that everybody in town could point to. The old Prosper Wine House closed in late 2024, and the storefront at 209 W. Broadway sat empty through an entire holiday season, an entire spring, an entire summer of people asking neighbors if anyone had heard what was going in.
Something is finally happening there. As of late September 2026, 1902 is opening its doors, and the wait explains a lot about what downtown Prosper has become while that one building sat dark.
1902 comes from Alora Hospitality Group, a partnership between Jason Young and Donny Churchman of Nack Development. They bought the building in January 2025 and put roughly a million dollars into it, according to reporting from Dallas CultureMap. The renovation added a new commercial kitchen, updated the interior for two floors of seating, and installed an elevator so both levels are accessible.
The name honors 1902, the year Prosper was founded. The kitchen is run by chef Amy DiBiase, a Johnson & Wales graduate whose resume includes the Sanderling Resort in Duck, North Carolina and stints at a hotel restaurant group in San Diego. Community Impact reported the menu leans into steaks and house-made pasta with a Tex-Mex twist, alongside a full bar program.
Upstairs is the part that made people in Prosper start talking before the sign even went up: Mary Ann's Speakeasy, a Prohibition-era lounge tucked behind the second floor, serving craft cocktails with rotating entertainment. Co-owner Jason Young told Local Profile the goal was an elevated dining experience with a place to gather, and the building itself, part of a small cluster of historic structures on West Broadway, gave them the room to build both a dining floor and a hidden bar above it.
Before 1902, downtown Broadway had three names that regulars already knew. The Gin plays on the town's cotton-gin history with a modern American menu. Trick Rider leans into a Texas rodeo look with steaks, seafood, and shellfish. Honeylu's has held the morning shift with fresh-baked pastries in a small, quiet room.
Add 1902 and Mary Ann's Speakeasy to that list and Broadway now has five independently owned concepts within a short walk of each other. That is not a strip of chain storefronts filling out a shopping center. It is four separate ownership groups betting on the same handful of blocks in the same eighteen months, which is not something that happens in a town this size unless the people writing the checks think Broadway can support it.
Drive down to the Preston Road and US 380 corridor and the pattern looks nothing like Broadway.
Chick-fil-A now operates two locations inside Prosper town limits. Owner-operator Chris Wright has run the Gates of Prosper location since 2012, and on May 26, 2026, he opened a second restaurant at the Dallas North Tollway and West Frontier Parkway. Chick-fil-A's own announcement noted the new location created about 100 jobs and included a $25,000 donation to the North Texas Food Bank in honor of the opening. A single operator running two Chick-fil-A restaurants three miles apart is not a small bet. The two locations add another familiar option to the corridor.
Two weeks before that, on May 11, 2026, Cracker Barrel opened at 3830 W. University Drive, at the corner of South Teel Parkway and US 380, bringing the chain's homestyle breakfast and Southern classics to that stretch of the corridor.
Gates of Prosper itself filled two more pads in 2025. Urban Cookhouse opened there in August, marking the Alabama-based farm-to-table chain's first Texas location, run locally by longtime Frisco restaurateur James Zemlock. Outback Steakhouse landed at Gates of Prosper that same summer.
More is still on the way. State filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation confirm Zaxby's broke ground in late April 2026 on a 2,275-square-foot restaurant at 5620 W. University Drive, an $823,000 project. Star Local Media reported the chicken chain broke ground alongside Burning Rice, a Korean-inspired fast-casual concept, which had been aiming for a summer 2026 opening. A Thai restaurant is also filling in near the Prosper-Celina line, and a Pickleman's franchise is planned for the corridor as well.
Where Broadway is building a handful of rooms meant for a reservation and an occasion, Preston and 380 are building the restaurants a family reaches for on a Tuesday when nobody wants to cook. Both things are happening in the same town, in the same calendar year, which is its own kind of proof that Prosper's population has grown past the point where one style of restaurant can carry the whole community.
None of this requires a trip out of town to enjoy. The Town of Prosper's own events calendar has two dates worth putting on the fridge.
The Hometown Harvest Fair returns to Frontier Park on October 17, an afternoon built around nostalgic music, a cornhole tournament, fall crafts, and dessert food trucks, free and open to the whole family.
Three days later, on October 20, Prosper on Tap kicks off, a craft beer event marking the start of the town's cooler-weather calendar.
Later in the fall, Prosper on the Plaza returns with a Friendsgiving theme on November 21, closing out the year's run of town-sponsored gatherings before the holiday season takes over.
Between a new speakeasy opening on Broadway and a fall calendar that already has three dates locked in, there is no shortage of reasons to be out and about in Prosper over the next two months. The corridor south of downtown will keep filling in with familiar names for the nights that call for something fast. Broadway is now the place with four kitchens worth planning around, and the wait on that one storefront is finally over.
